Life is a series of experiences,
and each one of these experiences contribute to the sum total
of who we are. Individually we call these experiences the story
of our life, but within these individual stories are shared
experiences. Experiences that each one of us can understand,
experiences that each one of us can relate to. It is the culmination
of these collective experiences that make us brother and sister,
that make us a community. It is in these experiences and stories
that together we can take shelter from the storm and find the
strength to meet each new day with a wink and a smile.

Shad Ireland-Dialysis
patient & Ironman triathlete
My experiences have taken me on a twenty-two year
journey from initial diagnosis through acceptance.
As a ten year old child I went from struggling with
kidney disease and dialysis to at age thirty-two
becoming the first dialysis patient to ever compete
in and complete an Ironman triathlon. The journey
continues, and with each new day comes new challenges
and new experiences. |
