DELAWARE - Tracy | Johnny | Ronald | Darrin

Tracy's Story
Tracy received an elliptical machine from the foundation.
I am 43 years old and married to my husband Mike, and together live with my son Matthew who is 10. My son has cerebral palsy and is the joy of my life. He is my best cuddle buddy. As Matthew needs my help a lot in transferring, building my arm muscles, back and abs, especially lower back is important. Any help I can get will be great, thank you...
Johnny's Story

Johnny RileyMy name is Johnny.  I’ve been on dialysis for two and a half years.  I work full time as a custodian form 2pm to 10 pm each day and my treatments are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5am to 10 am.

In the beginning I felt as though there was no hope.  My family wasn’t very supportive.  They only support I could rely on was from my wife and my supervisor.  I have a grandson named Chris who is 8 years old.  He gives me such joy.

Dialysis has changed my life in a major way. I used to be more active in my life, but since this major change.  I haven’t been able to do the things I used to such as daily activities with friends, boxing and little things such as going to a movie.

I believe the gym membership will enhance my physical well being as well as rebuilding myself esteem to combat other obstacles.

I would like to thank Shad Ireland for all of his support

Ronald's Story

Ronald DavidMy name is Ronald.  I am 53 years old and live in Wilmington Delaware. I started dialysis in January of 2003. Prior to being on dialysis I would enjoy working out at a local gym.  When Shad Ireland came to our dialysis unit I was inspired by his story and what he went through to get himself physically fit. I was excited when I heard that I was given a fitness grant so that I can get back to the gym.

In 2005 I had the toes on my right foot amputated due to poor circulation and diabetes.  This causes me to have difficulty walking and I often lose my balance.  My goals are to strengthen my legs and gain better balance through the fitness grant.

I am thankful that Shad did this for and other people.  He is giving us the chance to improve our lives.

Darrin's Story

Darrin MooreThe Peg Smythe Fitness Grant is just what I was looking for. I'm only 39 years old and this chronic illness took alot out of me. I know I will never be 100%, but I would like to get close as possible. There's a Bible verse that says "faith without works is dead", so I believe God will give me the strength to accomplish my goals. I like to thank Mr. Ireland for giving me hope and showing me how it's done.
